Anything patriotic gets American flags. Some of the big holidays have their own decorations. For minor holidays, especially those without any specific images associated with them, he will always use the shamrocks. Therefore, Mother's Day gets shamrocks, and I bet Father's Day will too.
Since the May 1 photo is hard to see with all the sun glare, here's May 2. You can clearly see all the decorations, including the "Mother" sign with the angels...I think that means his mother has passed away.
